Hui Hana Pono's mission is to provide a community of advocacy and
education, which helps consumers to manage the symptoms of their mental illness,
by promoting mutual support, community living, and offering
transitional/supported employment, while operating with cultural sensitivity and
in compliance with International Center for Clubhouse Development (ICCD)
standards.
Hui Hana Pono or the Clubhouse is a rehabilitation program for adult consumers
with severe mental illness. Hui Hana Pono is modeled after Fountain House
New York, the nation's first clubhouse model program.
The clubhouse program is based on cultivating friendships and work.
Work and the ability to develop a sense of belonging is the central and key
ingredients in the rehabilitation of adult consumers with psychiatric disabilities.
Main Components
There are two main components to the clubhouse program.
- The Day Program or Work Ordered Day. This is where members work
with other members and staff, side by side, to strengthen the member's
abilities by contributing to the daily operations of the
clubhouse. Besides learning food preparation and serving, record
keeping, grounds and building maintenance, community education, and the
production of a monthly newsletter, clubhouse members learn to take
responsibilities, increase their self-esteem and self-worth, and engage
in meaningful relationships.
- The Transitional Employment Program or TEP. This program offers
clubhouse members to work in real jobs out in the community, not
sheltered workshops or created jobs. Members are paid the
prevailing wage rate and the placement will last up to six months. For
Hui Hana Pono and the participating employers, the Transitional
Employment Program is an innovative partnership with a proven track
record.

Hours of Operation
Hui Hana Pono is operated Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm,
except on Tuesday from 8:00am to 7:00pm and on Saturdays from 10:00am to
2:00pm. Hui Hana Pono is also open on all holidays except for New Years
Day.
